    Rod storage on 2018 Z21

Is anyone else not liking the tiny tubes on the port side rod locker of this boat? And has anyone of you modified or removed your tubes?

I've got a new z20 and hate the rod tubes. They're way too small. I pulled mine out. So much nicer.

Did you leave the butt storage shelves in or take them out too?

I removed the tubes towards the bow. Its only a couple screws holding them in there. The steps with the holes towards the back side are glassed in but once the tubes are out in the front most rods will fit in front of the steps and super long ones that dont just stick the butt up on the step or in a hole.

I did leave the butt shelves in. I liked the fact that I could stack the rod butts without the reels laying on each other. It works pretty good.

I'm not to fond of mine in my z20, I'm picking up my passenger side console tomorrow and am wondering if im going to have to remove them tubes now.... the way it is now it's hard enough to get the rods out without the 2nd console... I kinda wish the red locker was in the center of the boat, would make things much easier

I love boats that have that setup. Maybe Nitro will change one of these days. They have been using basically the same deck layout since they started.

I hope they never goto a center storage.

Agreed...their center terminal tackle/storage compartments are some of the best out there. Adding center rod storage would almost have to alter that.

There are no good rod tubes. I like the fact that the shelves are there for spinning rods. Keeps the reels out of the mess.

I hate center rod storage as well. But if they made the front of it with a wall of rod tubes we could use it both ways?

In order to have center rod storage....you would have to have one bigger compartment like the Z-8's and Z-20's....I prefer the storage compartment layout of the Z-9's and Z-21's.

Unless you want to practice your skills at rod guide repairs, most guys I know remove them. I have not removed mine from the current boat, and I am constantly repairing rods. Course I like to blame it all on the rod tubes but that is not the case.... although I'm sure it has caused a few of them.

I've taking out the tubes in all my boats. I agree they are there to break eyes.

How do the tubes come out on the z21? From a quick look I’m seeing any screws

There's two screws on the top of the face plate.
