So that's like saying the shocks on your truck should be mounted the same way right? Both are gas charged shocks, just wondering why all these years they were mounted the opposite direction.

Gas springs and Gas shocks are different animals. Depending on the manufacture gas shocks can be mounted either way. My 5100 series Bilsteins are mounted upside down on the rear. Fronts are strut type mounted with the body down. Each vehicle may have a different application.

All this information, but don't they lay flat with the lid closed?

I mounted all of mine correctly..... luckily.....hehehe. I'm sure I looked at pics of them installed before installing all of mine, but, it's been awhile. I've got em on every lid in my boat.

My RT 198 came with the struts upside down, Changed them right after I rewired the trolling motor wiring which came wired for 12 volt not 24.

Mine have been installed “incorrectly” for 19 years….and still work like new. I wonder how much life they have lost due to this phenomenon.

Mine were installed "incorrectly" for 2 years and I've already replaced two of them.
After watching the video-- IMO, it's as much or more about smoothness of operation than longevity.
