question on setting the distance from bottom of boat with talon?

Minn Kota recommends to put it no less than 4" from bottom of boat, does that mean from the pad or from where the talon is mounted to bottom of boat? I'm installing mine right on the transom no bracket of my Ranger 374V and want to know where to set it so not to have too much drag when taking off for holeshot??

directly in front of the anchor, not the pad. if your anchors are farther away from the transom you may need additional clearance.
also while running, if there to low they will drag like some of rangers 520-521 L boarding ladders on there website

At 4" my 185VS trimmed up and running catch water. I would try 5" and see. When running if water hits them you'll hear it. On take off they're going to be in the water until you plane.

every boat is different, you're going to have to set it up. run it, and if it catches water raise it up.
