25p trophy plus or 26p tempest plus!!!!! Helpppppp

Ok guys . I'm running a 1998 ranger 518svs. 2001 merc 200 efi is pushing it - currently running a cleaned 25p tempest plus which is off of my 175 efi that I popped last year . ....... I'm getting 63-65 mph out of this prop. BUT my tach easily goes over 6100 rpm....... I'm thinking I should run the 26 tempest, but I have read quite a few posts about the 5 series running the trophys...... what is right and what is wrong ?!?!? Generally .... you attribute a 4 blade prop woth better excel and handling and less speed..... is this not the case for this set up ?? I'm thinking I should be able to get 66-69 mph at 5800 rpm . .....

    Thanks all !!

Either prop is really good on the Efi motors . If you have a 26 pp run it but if you don’t have the 25 reworked by a good prop smith to get your rpms down sounds like it’s slipping .

That set up should run very well with a Tempest+ 25.You either have a lot of slip or your tach is reading too high. See if you can try a good Tempest +25 set at about 3” under, or have yours worked back to stock. A 6” jack plate will help on that hull too,if you don’t have one already.

I run a 24 raker 2 on my 2000 r93 with 200 efi which is close in size and weight to yours, the raker has been better than any merc prop, I'm turning 5900 at 68.3 gps 3.25 ptp solo with full load of gas livewells etc, my 25 tempest was 3mph slower and my 25 trophy plus was 4 mph slower, the raker gives way more lift than either merc prop, just my 2cents.

The 26" tempest is too much prop for the 200 efi if it's an old 2.5 motor and most 26" tempest props need work before they run right. Your boat is a Ranger and needs bow lift so run the tempest. If that is the original tach it's probably off some and it will usually read higher than your turning but you should be able to turn the 25 tempest to 6000 and run 68 mph.
