Most people get them online. Not if sure if you plan on running your motor on the water with the cover on, but if you are, I've heard that it's bad for your motor.

Not bad for your motor as long as it's the proper Vented cover to fit your engine.. This has been discussed over in the Mercury forums already.

Why protect the cowl if it is covered up and you can't see it?
I agree. I would rather have the scratches than that motor cover. Just not for me.

Well the top half of a vmax cowl was around 400.00, so when/if you sell your boat the outboard cowl is not as likely to be damaged.

Mine is used to bounce off and break small branches as I bounce of trees getting to my fishing spot. I’ll never fish without one again.

    Me to.
Lasted 8 years. Was black and faded
some but not a scratch on my motor.
Removed when I waxed and put back
on next day. Fit like a glove. My motor
looked brand new when I sold boat.

No cover for me. Kind of like the "bras" they used to sell for front end of a car. Yuck

I have a Russell Marine cover. I just use it on long trips. It doesn't seem to move at all. Never have used it while on the water.

My Russle marine cover fits like a tight clove, no slack to allow for flapping or damaging cowling. Makes it a little tough to put on, but I would rather have a little trouble putting on than it flap in the wind and damage the cowling.

That's exactly why I just ordered one. Fishing in the woods is really hard on the boat and the cowling, both get scratched all to hell. And I mean up in the woods rubbing on oak, maple and hickory trees, not some brush.

I bought one more out of necessity than the fact I like the look of a motor cover. My 07 cowling looks brand new. It would be scratched to hell without it where I fish 90% of the time. And they’re great for protecting it while trailering.

Just do like motorcross guys with their goggles, put about ten on and when one gets dirty, peel it off to reveal a nice new cover.
