Most people get them online. Not if sure if you plan on running your motor on the water with the cover on, but if you are, I've heard that it's bad for your motor.

Not bad for your motor as long as it's the proper Vented cover to fit your engine.. This has been discussed over in the Mercury forums already.
I agree. I would rather have the scratches than that motor cover. Just not for me.Why protect the cowl if it is covered up and you can't see it?

I have a Russell Marine cover. I just use it on long trips. It doesn't seem to move at all. Never have used it while on the water.

Of course I talk to myself...sometimes I need expert advice.
My Russle marine cover fits like a tight clove, no slack to allow for flapping or damaging cowling. Makes it a little tough to put on, but I would rather have a little trouble putting on than it flap in the wind and damage the cowling.
Tuffskinz. Works on buck brush, cypress limbs, bugs, u v, etc.

I appreicate all the feedback. Seems like a no brainer. Thanks again!

I bought one more out of necessity than the fact I like the look of a motor cover. My 07 cowling looks brand new. It would be scratched to hell without it where I fish 90% of the time. And they’re great for protecting it while trailering.
