Mercury 50 HP 4 Stroke Charging System and AGM Cranking Batteries

    SN 1C311111
I need to replace my cranking battery for my 50 HP Mercury 4 stroke. I would like to go with an AGM battery. Is the charging system for my motor compatible with AGM batteries? Thanks

The Stator-type system used on your engine is not designed for use with AGM, Maintenance Free or Deep-Cycle Batteries.

Choose a well-rated WET cell battery.

Thanks. I’m glad I asked, as I had just about decided to try a AGM.

This is getting tuff I have a 2013 60HP Mercury 4 stroke and need to replace my cranking battery. Was looking at a Walmart Ever Start. But the new one's are Maintenance Free. They have them in local store but not showing online. EverStart 24-XMS 1000 MCA $75.
So I know no AGM and no Deep Cycle and now no Maintenance Free.
Guess I need to keep looking.

My old 1993 XR6 150 HP said no AGM batteries, I ran deep cycle/cranking battery on it for
25 years and as far as I know it is still going.
