Hmmm...that’s a great question. Any particular caliber you are looking for? My wife loves her Glock G42 (.380 ACP). I carry a S&W 9mm Shield, which is close to the same size. Both shoot great. Also hear great things about the Shield .380, although I have not shot one.

If you can find a range that rents handguns, you could let her shoot several variations to see what fits her best. My wife is small, but her two favorite handguns to shoot are her S&W Tactical .40 and her Colt King Cobra .357 Mag.

Sig Sauer 380 might be a good fit.

If she plans to shoot much try out the Springfield XD-e. Soft recoil, very easy for anyone to rack slide and operate.

As suggested above, try to find a range with rentals for her to try out. With that said, my wife chose the Ruger LC9s.

Good advice regarding renting several different guns at the range. I made the mistake of starting her on a Glock 42 and the Kimber .380 and went with the Kimber. The micro guns were easy for her to handle but lot of muzzle flip. Ended up letting her shoot with one of the range officers at our LGS and ended up selling the Kimber and getting her the S&W Shield. Sad thing is that I carry it more than she does now And thats saying something because I'm a 1911 guy and usually carry an officer sized .45 or my Browning Hi power 9mm.

Isnt that single action with a thumb safety. JMO, but unless you practice a lot and become proficient with it I don’t like a thumb safety on a carry gun. Turning off the safety needs to be second nature when drawing.

I hope you made sure she was comfortable with it first. Husbands often make the mistake of buying the gun they want instead of what the wife wants.

Is your spouse able to rack the Shield by herself?

I just got my carry license in feb and only owned 1 subcompact-a sw bodyguard revolver. I got a shield then hkvp9sk and yesterday got a sccy ( out of curiosity)— the shield is my favorite of the 4 and I’m giving it to my wife when she gets her license renewed— very impressive shooter. Sccy obviously the worst— ftf on 3rd round of 1st and only mag that I shot yesterday

So you didn’t buy her a gun, you bought yourself a gun? What’s she going to use if she’s attacked?

The first gen SCCY's were pure garbage but they really improved the next gen. Hope your FTF was a fluke.

Excellent choice.... Sig makes a very quality gun and those 938's are shooters for a small gun.
