It depends ....

I use 8-strand braid (Sufix 832) for open water and 4-strand braid (Power Pro) for fishing weeds (Flipping/Pitching/Frogging). I hate 4-strand braid due to its roughness. However, that rough characteristic cuts through weeds like butter which no 8-strand braid can match.
