    9mm defense ammo

Looking for what everyone runs for defense ammo. I just picked up a Sig P365 and it is my first 9mm. I run Liberty Ammunition in all my .40's because I like the light weight but can't find it anywhere in 9mm. Also, any consideration for short barrel ammo or +P ammo....does it really matter or is it the newest color Senko. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

I’ve used Cor-Bon 115 grain +P 9mm ammo for a lot of years in my CCW. Never used it on anything bigger than a possum or armadillo. Would love to try it out on a yote or small pig.

I selected Federal 124 grain HST for my wife's 9mm. I witnessed a gelatin test of the SIG V Crown were shots were fired through various materials (denim - light sheet metal). All of those rounds performed well.

FWIW, asking guys on a forum what kind of SD ammo they prefer may not be as useful as it would seem. I doubt any of them has shot enough living creatures with enough different SD ammo to have truely useful info. Its all going to be based on something they read or what someone else told them. So, here’s a good source of info to do some research on your own.

    https://www.luckygunner.com/labs/sel...llistic-tests/

You can’t duplicate real world situations in the lab but these guys use a repeatable test that give results you can compare. I’d look for a round that has appropriate penetration (not to little or to much) where all five test rounds fully expand and don’t come apart.

Look up Shooting the Bull on youtube. He does alot test out of 3” barrel 9mm. Surprised how bad some do. Worth your time to watch his test results. But like above 124 hst or 147 winchester ddefense line from the Train + Defend line was his choices from terminal performance. Critical Duty was horrible fyi for all using it in ccw 3” guns in 9mm.

I'm a 21 year veteran LEO and a few years ago I was tasked with doing research for my agency to determine the best ammo for use to carry in our pistols. I pulled all the data I could find and we did some of our own independent testing. We went with Gold Dot. The HST was right there with it in performance though. So, as Imavol stated it's Gold Dot or HST, I wound't carry anything else in my pistols. I'd do the 147 grain, it has the best performance of the 9mm line-up in penetration, expanded diameter and retained weight.

Gold Dots if available in that chambering, Federals if not.
