    OHTSU low profile tires

Had a blowout on one year old tire this past weekend. The low profile tire didn’t show much wear but now I am a bit concerned running a car tire as a trailer tire. Anyone else have any issues with the “upgrade” to the OHTSU fp7000 tires? The load rating seems adequate but it’s not a dedicated trailer tire.

"Blowout" is such a general term. Most tire failures are the result of penetration from a foreign object and subsequently being run low of air. Was the tire inspected? Was it determined to be defective tire?

It looks like something might have penetrated the sidewall, but hard to say.

cheap ass tire is a cheap ass tire.

Replace those china bombs with something a little more reputable. Preferably with a higher load index as well. At least XL rated.

    They're all owned by Sumitomo.

Falken, Sumitomo and Ohtsu are all cheap tires in comparison to their equivalent competition.

The damage in the picture is from running flat or severely underinflated. It is hard to tell if the circled area was a penetration, impact or gouge. One thing for certain, the sidewall area on a radial tire is the most vulnerable part of the tire. Low profile tires are not as forgiving and are much more prone to impact breaks because of the height (lack of) of the sidewall. Nothing I see leads me to believe the tire was defective in any way.
