    2000 opti 225

hello im getting a project boat in 2 weeks and its a 1999 ranger 620vs with a 2000 optimax 225 on it. with ser # 0t090851 now I do know some background on this motor. I got the info from a merc/ranger dealer near by and they told me that it blew with 103 hrs on it cldr 5 went and the powerhead got replaced and a ecu too. and some other parts . anyway it has been sitting since 05 since Katrina hit LA and they drained all gas from it.. now several years later and grandpa who owned boat left it to his grandson and he don't want to deal with it. I have gotten the guy to change the blown fuse on the fuel box and it wants to start but he don't want to change the fuel line or primer bulb its all cracked and leaking fuel. so im guess that when I go down there I put fresh gas in the tank (its been Drained) and put a new line and mercury bulb on I bet it will start. he said its sucking air right now . I did talk to one of sherm's guys and told me he'd bet that im right its sucking air and not priming .. anyway what other problems should I look for.. I know that sherm has looked at my last opti and I feel he is the man on those in my state of IN so he will most likely be seeing this one too.. Bill

Couple topics from the FAQ at the top of the 3L forum (what this engine is) that should help, especially the fuel problem link do not skip anything. Two other things I'd do, every single item in the annual maintenance link and, as the engine hasn't run since '05, rails and injectors cleaned/verified as there's probably congealed fuel in them as well - Integrity Injection (European Marine) or Brucato's.

oh im sure he will as of right now this is what I know its not getting gas and the steering is leaking and the lower unit will need the skeg welded on as its missing a lot of it. so he will have to take the LU apart and fix and reseal it and change out the water pump too and what ever else he thinks.. the key is not working the best as its been sitting out for years and the beeper not working and the key stucks too. but I am so sure he will go through this baby good. as last time he seen my other boat was 14 years ago and that engine is running like a top. the new owner loves the way it runs.. Here is a update. It won't be long now Sherm has the motor running and the lower unit has been taken apart to be sent out to get the skeg rewelded as it was missing it was overheating too but the water pump needs to be replaced and I'm sure the thermostat and popip v too then it should be good to go. But the vst was totally bad and not saveable to it needed replaced. He also re sealed my power steering it was leaking mat both seals. Can't wait to get her back and get the carpet done as most has been removed already cause it was falling off the boat this is on a 2000 ranger 620 vs Also needs to be wetsanded and pro-tec used on the gel too it's rough
