Taking My father’s mistress

Growing up, I watched my father constantly working on our home, taking our home from the 25x25 slab built hunting camp that it was when they purchased it, into the 35x50 home with a basement and a detached two story 24x30 garage, doing 100% of the work himself with some friends. All this time I’ve also seen him keep the largest bottle of Advil I’ve ever seen in my life as a mistress.

I have to say, now that I’m older and I have my own home that I’m working on repairing and remodeling....I get the Advil thing.

I hear you. Over the last 20 years, my wife and I have bought and completely rebuilt three homes. We made a bunch of money at resell on the first two, and we're living in the third. It's completely done to our liking. We could sell it and pocket significant money, but we're done, as in flat worn out. I'll never buy another fixer again. Then again, I've said the twice before!

Funny how when you’re younger and have all the energy in the world you don’t really care that much about home maintenance and repairs. And then, as you get older and slower, and the energy wanes a bit, all you want to do is the things that are better accomplished by someone a little younger and more energetic.
Kind of like the reason most guys you see driving sports cars or convertibles have gray hair (or no hair). Most didn’t have time or the money to buy and enjoy a sports car when they were younger.
Sometimes I think it’s proof that God does have a sense of humor.

Football and being obese all my life has not been good for my joints.
