    Maxxum 70 upgrade question

I have a Triton TR20 that came with a Maxxum 70lb thrust TM that seems to be slowing down with age.
Speed 1 and 2 doesnt seem to move the boat much anymore and 3 and 4 seem the same.
Not until I hit 5 does it move her pretty good.
I have checked under the prop for line.
Have any of you upgraded a 70 to an 80 to stay at the 24v range? And have you noticed a difference?
Would the 80lb thrust be sufficient for my 20 ft boat with 200 Johnson on back?

    Thanks BBC

    you'll notice a difference if going from a 70lb maxxum to a 80lb fortrex.

The old 5 speed motors were sorely lacking in thrust difference in the lower speeds. Compared to the digital motors, they waste a lot of battery power too. It would be a cold day in Hades before I used a 5 speed on my bass boat again.

As mentioned above, the 5 speed motors were/are very inefficient in the handling of voltage. The 80 is a variable speed motor and yes, you will see a lot of difference in the two. The 80 is also a bigger (4") motor and will run cooler than the 70 (3.625") motor.
If I can help, give me a call.

That will be sufficient, yes. I had an 80# MAXXUM on my 201 Pro Elite with a 225 Merc on it. Moved the boat just fine.
