is it normal for the trailer to have play in the tongue? I've tried tightening up the bolt but I can't get it to tighten up any more. Seems like my previous trailer didn't have this problem. Thanks for the help!

The plastic bushings might be worn a bit.

I just noticed mine has some play in it the last time I used it. Thought about seeing if I could get some bushings for it
Where would you put the bushings, on the bolt or the tubing where they mate up??

They are in the tubing. Thin walled nylon bushings.

There are no bushings its a dom tube steel.
There ARE bushings. I took it apart when it was new when I swapped the bolt and pin from side to side. I could even see the flange of the bushing when I took everything apart.

I've never seen a plastic bushing in the trailers I have seen them on the leaf springs but not the trailers ideally they should use a brass bushing with a bolt through it preferably oil light
Ok, no bushings in the holes, but there are 'washers', that look like flanges of bushings, underneath and on the top of the steel parts. And yes they are plastic. I have a sliver of one right here. Maybe they were bushings before they wore out. They are stuck real good to the steel. And they looked like bushings 2 years ago when I swapped the tongue pin and bolt. They didn't want to come off back then either. I had to peel the sliver off with a little difficulty a minute ago. So, is there just plastic washers there around the holes and between the steel parts? They are wore out anyway.

yes there would be plastic washers on the BOLT side which is why there is a little slop in the pin side.
If there were no extra tolerance we wouldnt be able to swing them they are going to be a little loose, you can lift on the tongue and get some free play that is the way it is going to be.
