    Fish ID + ???

So I remember way way back there was a good read on here about how Fish ID is different with HB vs other brands etc. Something about registering a swim bladder or something. Can someone explain that again as I cant for the life of my find that old thread searching. I think there were some recommended settings etc.

    thanks

I use it all the time.
Humminbird filters the fish returns by air bladder sizes. It only assigns a symbol if the fish is large enough to qualify for a symbol.
There are three sizes for Med/83 kHz and three sizes for High/200 kHz for freshwater species and another set for larger species using the Saltwater setting. If you use the dual beam setting like 83/200 kHz, the 200 kHz coverage will have gold colored fish, and the 83 kHz coverage will have green or blue colored fish.

The only setting I use is ON.

All returns above the bottom in this screen shot are fish, only the bass and large crappie get the symbols.

Okay thanks... I knew it was something like that just could not remember.

Do you adjust sensitivity at all ?? Any idea the size of bass / crappie that would trigger a fish ID return. Seems like I remember reading something like 1lb or something.

The few times I used it I really liked it.. Just didnt fully understand what I was looking at.

Smallest symbol is about a 1- 1/2# bass, med is a 2'- 2 1/2# bass, and large is 3#+. If you see crappie with fish symbols, they are NICE ones.

Very few crappie in this school qualified for a symbol. Was just using 200 kHz at that time.

Leave the other fish ID sensitivity settings at default?

    Wayne,
In your first screenshot all those nice arches are fish to small to get a fish symbol?

Found this screen shot that has lots of arches and FishID symbols. The thermocline is at the bottom from about 27' and was in early November 2012.

So what type of fish do you think the suspended ones are ??? Wouldnt think bass in that formation. Curious as beig they are flagging the fish icon they would all be above 1.5 lbs.

Most, if not all, the symbols are bass. Similar happens in late Winter/Early Spring. A-rig pattern.
