I tried CPAP several times with several different masks. Never could do it. The mask would be thrown off my face within thirty minutes of going to sleep and then snoring started again. So I was faced with either divorce, sleeping in another room at the other end of house or losing some weight. Have lost about 30lbs and snoring has been gone over a year now.

Have a sleep study. Cpap will stop the snoring. If you have apnea, it will raise blood pressure, cause heart disease, weight gain, diabetes, acid reflux, sleep deprivation, etc.... Finding the right mask isn’t always easy, but when you find the right one - it becomes a non-issue. I don’t snore anymore and sleep like a baby.

Cavitation inside of a submarine is a serious issue. Had you stayed below resonance levels, they wouldn't have been so harsh.

I'm glad I found this thread, good information here one other thing Id like to add is that there have been links to hearing loss due to sleep disorders as well, from how its been explained to me is that it deals with blood flow to various parts of the inner ear..............I'm currently dealing with a similar problem and this was brought to my attention.

I couldn't do CPAP. I would tear it off in the middle of the night.

You'd be surprised what you can do when the alternative is dead ... just saying.

Wife tried the Zyppah and many other potential solutions while she was pregnant. Without going into too much detail, she had some major swelling issues that made the snoring a really big problem and eventually led to her needing to be induced approximately 3 weeks early. Nothing worked for the snoring, and of course I was happy to sleep in the guest bed for a few months while she carried our little one.

The main reason for the post was to inform about the Zyppah which my research beforehand led me to believe was a product that really worked. The instructions were poor making getting it fitted very difficult, and she found it extremely uncomfortable. Even when she was able to sleep while wearing it, it didn't stop the snoring. Now that was an extreme circumstance - she's a fairly small person and lost 55 lbs in 3 weeks after our son was born - but I felt it wasworth mentioning. They gave her a little bit of a hard time when she took advantage of their guarantee, but was able to get a refund without TOO much trouble. Usually actually using those guarantees is an exercise in futility, so I have to give them credit for that.

Visit with some folks having apnea comparing BP readings and seeing who's had the most bypass surgeries and motivation to find an acceptable CPAP mask is pretty easy to find. I didn't think I'd be able to do it, but getting a consistent 7hrs. a night of real sleep, normalized BP readings, and loss of 20 lbs. works for me over the last couple of years. My wife not having sleep deprivation is a good motivation as well. I use an Airfit P10 mask and an Airsense 10 Autoset machine. I've been through a few masks until I settled on this one. BTW - recent research has shown lack of sleep (less than 7hr. avg.) is a major contributing factor to dementia and Alzheimer's disease. My mom developed that at 65. I've seen it first hand. Restful sleep is as important as what you do when you're awake.

Here's what is working for me...

I lost 20 lbs, working on losing another 10-15

Bought a bed that elevates the head a little

Sleep with 1 pillow that is firm and holds my head in place

Snoring isn't completely gone, but it has reduced greatly
Been fishin' since I was 5 years old...Thanks Grandpa!

This worked for me. I don't believe this device is treatment for sleep apnea, though. But it will for sure stop snoring.

Thanks for the replies guys. I’m about 10lbs heavier then before this problem started and wife is about a month away from her due date. Hopefully her issue goes away after the delivery and a sleep study is something I had suggested for both of us to do before. I even know the techs where we would be having the sleep study done at

I had a custom made mouth piece made thru an oral surgeon that alleviates snoring and also prevents my teeth from grinding while sleeping.
My wife let's me know that it works very well.

Been on CPAP now for 3 years. Best thing i ever did. It took some getting used to, but I was am a sever case of SA - They nearly woke me during my sleep study as they thought I was going to stroke out. If you have SA, address it. Its no joke. Also get a good pillow that supports your head correctly. Believe it or not the "My pillow" is a great pillow. I have one and love it. It really does what they advertise.

i couldn't either, so i chose a new procedure. had to get 4 of them and was released from the cpap

    The VOAT Procedure: CPAP Alternative
The Sleep and Sinus Center of Georgia’s VOAT™ surgery is a new approach to radio frequency ablation of the tongue. However, it is a marked improvement on the procedures of the past. The VOAT™ procedure takes a different approach, where scarring is less visible, the incision is less painful, and patients have an 80% chance of improving. Many patients no longer require a CPAP machine at all. In fact, the in-office VOAT™ procedure is very quick, and requires minimal sedation, and some surgeries only lasting 30 seconds.

In conclusion, while radiofrequency ablation is a highly adaptable technology that has been used anywhere from treating varicose veins to sleep apnea. The VOAT procedure has improved upon the foundation laid by RFA and other procedures to become the best option for potentially curing sleep apnea.

you may also need a mouth piece

    Oral Appliance Therapy
Oral Appliance Therapy offers patients a non-surgical option for treating their sleep apnea. It functions as a tool to maintain an unobstructed, open airway to facilitate proper breathing during sleep. While there are over-the-counter versions of this tool, a custom-made oral appliance has proven to be more effective at treating sleep apnea.

To begin the process, our on-staff dentist, who is certified in Dental Sleep Medicine (DABDSM), will conduct an examination of your condition. He will also evaluate your specific needs to determine the most appropriate appliance for you. It will be custom-fitted to you and will adapt to your specific needs.

For more information, contact the Sleep and Sinus Centers of Georgia, or make your consultation appointment online.

I use a CPAP. About a year after my wife and I got married she was ready to file for divorce if I didn't do something about my snoring, it was so bad that we were sleeping in different rooms on different levels of the house and she could still hear me. She wasn't sleeping, I was sleeping, but it wasn't restful sleep. I did the sleep study and was found to have a severe case of sleep apnea. I knew that because I had one done about 10 years prior and it was pretty bad then too. But the first time around the CPAP they gave me sucked, the mask was ginormous and I couldn't get comfortable wearing it. 5 years ago when I did the test again and they gave me the new CPAP system, it was different, smaller, quieter, a good adjustable head strap system, huge improvement over the previous version.

The one I am using is the Phillips Respironics with the Wisp masks. It just goes over your nose and then has a comfy and fully adjustable head strap system. It changed my life for the better. I was able to get restful sleep for the first time since I was a kid. My snoring STOPPED, made no noise whatsoever, that meant my wife and I could sleep in the same bed again and she actually slept. It saved our marriage for sure.

If you have issues with snoring, get a sleep test done to be sure you don't have sleep apnea as the first step. If you have sleep apnea, give the CPAP a shot as it is the right tool for the job. And if you can, try out the Respironics system with the Wisp masks, the only one I could get comfortable with.

It is so important to me that I carry it along with me when I am doing overnight travel, no matter what. I even bought a pure sine wave inverter and use a 12V deep cycle battery when I know I am going to be somewhere without power. Without it, I along with any travel companions will not sleep the entire trip.
