I was looking into doing this as well. Found on the Wish App rod sleeves for a dollar a piece and a dollar a piece for shipping. Bought 25 for $50. Don't know if you were looking for a project or just to save money. I was looking to save money over paying 5-7 bucks a pop.

Could you use some rubber/plastic dip the ends? what would be best?
You should know that in bee tending if you don't shut your trap the bees will get out.

YES you can dip the sleeve TIP end. I like Heat Shrink tubing best tho. The handle end, NO, dont dip, roll it inside tube
then use hair dryer or heat gun to form the opening the way you want. ( I use a metal funnel and enlarge it )

I'd actually suggest rolling it outside the tube, this keeps the rolled up end from catching on the guides when it's pulled off. I bought a bunch of sleeves that are rolled inside and they catch all the time...

Mine NEVER catch inside it made correctly. They have to be "TIGHT" inside. I never seen any made outside the tube
