    96 150 tach intermittently working....

96 150. Runs good but the tach has been hit or miss the whole time my dad has owned the boat! Checked wire continuity. Installed new tach. Still same result. Heard also could be a ground gaining and loosing connection? I have tried everything. Also when I installed the tach it had a dial on the back of it which you could adjust I am assuming to different engines. What should that be set to? Plz help!?

Switch the tach wire to the other regulator and see what happens.
1995 Allison XB-2003 225 Super Mag. It's slow and I'm ok with that.
