    Crappie rods

Hey guys, I'm looking at purchasing 2 crappie rods for light crappie jigs around docks and brush. What do you all recommend without breaking the bank?

What is the preferred size for crappie? Is 9'6" to long?

No. I have 7'6s and 10 foot long rods. Length for me is determined if I am jigging or trolling. I use either when fishing with a cork.

I use 7' medium light rods. Those fly rods are fine on small crappie, but you lose control with the big ones.

For cheap but good rods I say okuma celillo hands down. I have several of them from 4 and a half to 7 foot. Super affordable, super sensitive and although I have heard you don’t want to flip a slab over the side of a boat or on a dock with them I have boat flipped some nice fish without issue. Range from $20-$30. My higher end rod of choice is falcon but I still fish the okuma every time I go.
