    Talon squeal

When retracting my Talon I hear a slight squealing noise, everything works just fine but it's just kind of annoying. Is there anything you can do to eliminate this? It's a 2017 Talon.

Lay them down and extend them all the way out and spray them with wd40 or some type of lubricant.

I do this about 3 times a year and it takes almost all of the noise out of it. Letting them fully deploy in open water every couple trips helps too.

Had the same issue with mine. I took it off and fully extended it and sprayed it with a synthetic lubricant and they are quieter. I also fully extend them in deep water and and idle for a few minutes and wash any sediment or dirt off them. It will help it if it starts happening while on the water

Believe it or not, talked to Minn Kota about this and their answer "Extend, spray down with Pledge furniture polish a couple times a year". They suggest that over any form of lubricant because it won't attract dust/dirt like some lubes do.

I had and an ASC tell me the same thing about Pledge. There was one other household cleaning item he mentioned as well, but I don't recall what it was. Maybe Endust.

Just seen this again, I feel like the noise is coming from the pulley system near the top of the Talon head. But I will try the pledge thing first.

Remove top cap and spray with wd40 or pledge. Fixed mine.

I have a less than a year old 10’ talon that screeched from day one. I read some place ( maybe from a post on here) that it’s a screw in side of the talon. It has gotten worse and worse over the last 10 months and now will not deploy the last stage. It’s at a repair center now and I’ll know what was wrong and update as soon as I here.
I also called min Kota within two weeks of getting them and they told me I just needed to grease them. If it sounds like metal on metal I’d get it looked at. I’m just glad it got stuck up and not deployed out.

Did Minn Kota recommend a grease? Does anyone have a grease recommendation? Mine are noisier than they should be.

Graphite Spray that dries and leaves a thin long lasting lubrication on the components.
Cover surrounding surfaces to safeguard from overspray

I picked them up today. The screw that worked loss had no blue lock tight on it. If yours sounds like metal on metal I’d get them looked at. If it gets stuck wile deployed you won’t be able to even hand crank it up. Meaning you will have to detach the talon from the bracket Wile in the water and strap the exstended pole to the boat. Wile this is 100% doable it would fall under f&$ked up s#$t that happed on the water list. Hope this helps good luck.

This will make me keep a ratchet strap in the boat. That way I can tilt it down and put a strap from cleat to cleat to hold it until I get on the trailer.
