    Solix 2d advice

I have upgraded from gen1 Lowrance units to a solix 15 at the bow and a solix 12 at the helm. I really like these graphs so far. I have noticed while using 2d at times I am not seeing the true bottom.
I was fishing vertically in 40 ft. watching my bait go down on the screen. My bait on the screen showed it was at the bottom but I was able to drop it 1 1/2 ft further down and it just disappeared into the bottom return on the screen. As I lifted the bait about 3 ft. off the bottom I watched a fish come up out of the false bottom reading and take the bait. It was a hard bottom.
I am looking for advice on how to adjust the unit to be able to see the true bottom in these situations. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Turn on Bottom White Line.

I find the bottom line difficult to see at times.(probably my eyes) But in addition to Wayne's selections I add the "Bottom Fill" option. It fills the actual bottom with a vivid color. Bob

The bottom fill is a good suggestion as long as you aren't interested in readings to determine the bottom hardness. In my case, the lake I fish is totally rock so I have no need for determining bottom hardness. I really like the bottom fill as it makes the bottom a single consistent color.
