    Ultrex size opinions

    Keep this simple -
Home lake is Champlain(windy). Just bought a Nitro Z19. 19'4"
I fish off shore a lot and have been using a 60" terrova on a tin boat with spot lock for over 4 years. I am upgrading the Z19's brand new fortrex 24v 80#.

Considerations - trolling is already wired for 24v and guage is big enough to add another battery for 36v if needed.

    What I need to know:

    • 112# 36v or 80# 24v.
    • 45" or 52"

Having a hard time finding a happy medium for my boat. I feel like I need the 112 for heavy wind days off shore and the longer shaft to help keep contact with water, but I don't want it to massive on the front deck taking up more space than needed. is the 45" much bigger that the 52 other than shaft length?

or do I suck it up and buy AGM batteries for the 24v systems to compensate for longer days?

    Looking for suggestions.

I have the 80# 45". For you I would get 112# 52". I also regret not getting the ipilot link and the appropriate graph to go with it.

    Thanks Mike ..

Have you been out on windy days with yours? does it come out of the water a lot with the 45"?

Not a lot but it does on really windy days. My boat is to small to fish from when the waves are that big.

If the 52 is too long the shaft can be cut back to any length you want.(the mounting bracket is longer on the 52 vs the 45, however, and it cannot be shorted). If the 45 is too short, you are out of luck. I would go with the 36 volt regardless.

What you have hanging off back 225? If so I'd go 112 if it was any TM. And that fact you fish that big water 52" simple...

Having fished Champlain back in the day, I know how rough that pond can get. 10MPH wind can generate 6 footers. Me I would get 112# 52". you will never regret it. If the compartment can take and extra battery.

I would suggest the 112/52. You started off saying you used a 60" on a tin boat. The Nitro sits higher than the tin boat so I would get the 52 for the Nitro. If I can help, give me a call.

I have the similar dilemma. I’m on the TN river chain in AL. I would have to get creative in my back compartment to add a 3rd battery to my 18’ 6” Stratos.. Anyone have experience with the ultrex 24 volt? Does spotlock drain your batteries fishing offshore? I’m concerned this could be a problem with the TN river current. Any opinions and experience is appreciated! .

I had a Z19 all last year with a 45” 80# Fortrex. Never a problem with wind or battery drain. The Nitro dealer here puts 45” shaft trolling motors on even the Z21’s fishing KY lake. That 80# Fortrex will run all day and throw you off the front deck if not paying attention.

My concern with the 80 lb is using spotlock in current situations closer to dams on the TN river. Seems the 112# could really benefit in these situations over the 80 lb from my experience with using my 80 lbs fortrex.

X2. Especially since you fish deep a lot.

I would get the 112 52 as well. I was going to get a 52 but stuck with a 45 as I like to fish shallow and flip. Figured the little bit I come out of the water was a trade off for when I wanted the motor raised up.
