can't make up my mind about getting rid of Talons for a Ultrex.

Recently I have been thinking hard about a Ultrex. I have two 12' talons right now that are gen 2. I love them. I do a lot of heavy vegetation fishing mainly between 5-12' of water, but I also spend half my season off shore in 15-35' of water, and in heavy current below the locks/dam's on our river. The talons have changed the way I fish for sure and I use them almost every time out.

My question is, how does the Ultrex do with holding position in vegetation? I do a lot of flipping and pitching as well. This is my main concern. Also, I have get 2 touch HDS units. Can the ultra link to them? I have Navionics+ as well.

Completely different deals. Don't get rid of your Talons, the Ultrex won't do the job they do. That said, the Ultrex is really cool in open water, just add one if you can. They won't link to your units but it doesn't matter, the spot lock is the big deal, the rest isn't really necessary.

I guess thats what I wanted to hear. I wanted to hear if the Ultrex would do the job the talons can do.

I can get a Ultrex during the summer when I get over this broken leg thing...

Good call, I have one and PP's. Wouldn't give up either as they are different tools.

I have the Ultrex and love it, I had two 12'ft talons and took them off and went to the new 8ft talons. I seldom used the 12 in more than 6ft of water so the 8's work great for me and I can use the Ultrex where my 8' won't work, plus going with the shorter talon, they are below my motor so it makes it easier for my wife to fish out the back of the boat.

Yeah, I had a terrova with I pilot. It didn’t do very good in vegetation. If the TM was above any weeds, it
Was great but when it’s just slowly spinning the prop, weeds would get wrapped around it and chock out the motor. I can’t imagine the ultrex would do anything different.

My new boat will have 1 Talon and an ultrex. Best of both worlds for me.

Nope. Get it now. You can sit in the seat up front, or in the back, and use the remote to run you all over the place. Broken leg and all.

If I had to chose between the two it would be the Ulrex, but I fish allot of rivers where the poles would not be of any value.

Nobody mentioned that, in shallow water, the last thing you want going on is spot lock. That thing will be turning every which way trying to stay on the spot and blow out any cover that you're fishing.

They will hold , will be loud as they scrape along the rocks till they get in a crack, may need to deploy down a second time, also stopping the boat movement relative to the bottom first will help the noise
