80 or 112 lb
Hey guys contemplating upgrading from a fortrex to the ultrex. It’s only $120 difference in price from the 80 to the 112. I just purchased this boat so not familiar with what it’s going to take to fight the wind. I’d rather no have 3 batteries but hate to regret not going 112 it I should now. Any thoughts if 112 is needed on a 21ft Stroker?

I run a Motor Guide Tour 80, it works good on the lakes I fish. Never had a problem in the wind. I haven't fished any river current.

I've run down a 109 with three group 31 batteries in heavy wind in a day, to the point I couldn't fish the last hour.(Winds were 30 to 40). 24v wouldn't have gotten me to lunch. My vote is the 112.
I will say since I went to three 80 amp Lithium Ions, I've never run them down. They have more capacity than any group 31 lead acid.
95+percent of the time 24 will work. But in my case, too many times it won't. If you mainly fish soft plastics or jigs, 24 is OK. If you cover a lot of water like me, got to have a 36V setup

If you’re not a hardcore tournament fisherman and you can pick and choose the days you fish (to avoid high winds) an 80 is plenty. If you plan to seriously tournament fish then follow the above advice.

My kid will be fishing high school in a couple years but beyond that I just fish for fun which usually includes not fishing in heavy wind. Thanks for your guys input.

I like to fish the river systems around here and sometimes even my 101lb Fortrex isn't enough.

I would go with the 112 as you will use more battery with the spot lock feature. It can be tricky getting that third trolling battery in there
