It's 2018.1x.
You can get a free update. Put it in your unit and another card (32gig) in the other slot and turn your unit on (i am assuming you 840 has 2 slots). This will put the info (software ver, map info and card info, unit info) onto the new card. Go to garmin site and put the new card in your computer. Request a map update and follow instructions (some what ambiguous - its garmin).
It will ask you if you want to update your ultra. Select yes box.
It will download the entire 2018 version onto the new card (all 23 gigs - takes forever 4hrs or more depending on your connection), that is why you need a 32 gig card.
The old 2017 card will still be useable, and the new card will contain all the 2018 maps.
