I put a HDS 10 on the dash of my 2004 and cut the windshield around it, might be a little tough with that big 15" screen, but if someone is willing to give me one, I'll switch from Lowrance and make a windshield fit around it!!

While anything is possible, I had a helix 9 under the windshield and it barely fit. I now have a hds 7 in there and a 12 on the side.

I'm not saying it can't be done. I find it blocks to much of my vision. I got a HDS 9 under my windshield and HDS 12 on the side.

We don't trim the windshield to put bigger screen, we put windshield wedges. Looks WAY better and you get better wind protection. Canadabullet came up with the idea.

If you look at the bottom right and left of the 2nd picture you will see the windshield wedges we made.

I use to think you didn;t need anything more then a 5" screen. Then i went to 8.4". then 10.4" and now 12s. It's just so much nicer to follow under water ridges with the big screen.

I have to agree with hyperflow. I still have a Bird 997c si (8” screen) under my windshield and I like the lower shield. Now a 15” (or two) on the bow would be awesome, but I like to be able to see as much as possible when driving.

that's the only thing on the HDS 10 that I hade that I cut the windshield around, was the airflow, thank goodness I'm only 5'8" I could see over it just fine, but a deflector on the back side of the unit would have been nice. don't have that problem with the HDS 9, it fits under the windshield

Don’t get me wrong, bigger is better on the screens. I’d go as big as my windshield allows without mods. Some guys have the tall shields but mine is the lower. I actually like the shorter better. When I’m driving, I want as much view as possible. I like a big screen on the bow though.

according to my measurements raising the back of the windshield up 4" should let a 12 solix fit nicely . i guess i will go with a 12.

Will the downforce from the windshield being high slow you down??

i was nervous of this also. I’m not sure if it’s from removing the side fish finder or less wind on my body but I gained speed. I can feel a lot less wind on my body now. It actually makes it more enjoyable to drive also.
