    Side scan image questions

I have enjoyed (and gotten envious) of the great side scan images. I have a question as I am trying to interpret them. There is a line down the center, I "assume" this is the center of the boat long ways. If that's the truth then why will it have say a 20" to each side other lines. I would interpret this as the width of the boat, however the transducer is below the hull and ought not "see" the hull. So help me interpret this please. I just got the Lowrance hds7 gen3 and boy do I have a lot of learning to do...

Holy crap. I have been trying to interpret for a few years. I have not been wrong but damn that simplifies it for me.

How does this relate to Lowrance units? Same concept but I've not heard of "slant imaging" used when discussing Lowrance.
    I got nothin

Sorry I just noticed this. Some facts:
    It is Slant Range technology.

Humminbird was the first to have recreational Side Imaging. Lowrance copied it a few years later and called it Side Scan. Then Raymarine copied it and called it Side Vision and most recently Garmin copied it and calls it SideVu.

The technology is the same regardless of what it is named. Why you guys don't know about it should be a question for the reps. to answer.

I don't have Hummingbird units so not knowing it is called "slant range" is no surprise to me. Hummingbird using both names for the same technology? Slant Range and Side Imaging?
