    Smith Mountain Lake in April

Question: Looking to find a weekend getaway with the wifey as well as get away from some of this snow. I was wondering how smith mountain lake is in mid April? Just heading down for a long weekend and curious if it's worth the drive. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

April is a great month at SML. Check out the cabins at the State Park, that would be my choice for a long weekend. Like said above the big bass tour is 14 &15, 987 anglers last year so avoid them days

Joe, I was there last year over Easter weekend, believe it was around April 15 or so. It was also the week or two after the big bass tour last year. I found it to be a tough bite. But it was a family vacation, so I wasn't fishing from sun up to sun down searching. I didn't even get to the southern end of the lake. The lake is HUGE !! I managed a couple nice 2-2.5 lb.fish.

It is an extremely scenic lake. I very much enjoyed the vacation even without having fishing success.
