Question Anyone running a SEI LOWER UNIT ON A 250 Pro xs

In a bind and need to get on the water ASAP. If I understand correctly this unit doesn’t have a fat shaft and I will need a new hub kit, but it will bolt on and run. Outside of wave jumping and maybe avoiding long runs at WOT, can I get by
    babying this?

I understand warranty is voided but can it be run and anyone do it?

    2009 Mercury 250 Pro Xs

    Thanks in advance.

I have a few buddies run them for the same reason as you. They typically last a year or 2 and then deny warranty

They will work for a while but why spend $960. for that when you can get a good used TM for $1,600-1,800

Had 3 TMs go south on me in 4 years, so I personally can't say how great they are.

I don't know if he'll have another 960$ in 6 month but, what I think I know right now is that he does not. And its March and he has the bug as we all do, you convince him to wait 3,4,5 months till he has enough for the right gearcase.

You sir are correct. It’s about that time. Thanks for the responses guys! I have seen on a few other sites where there has been some going for a few to 3 yrs. Thinking of taking a chance.

You have a good point for sure. The winter boat budget shrunk instead of grew. Gonna have to take a chance. Thanks for your response

SEI won't warranty their unit on a 250HP motor.

Friend of mine has one on his 250. He registered it to a 225 s/n. He's been running it with no problem for 3 years & believe me, he doesn't baby it. Btw, He said they don't warranty any Pro XS, not just the 250.
Just replaced the seals & water pump in my TM (torqueMaster) again......My 3rd unit.
Hey CATCHEM, If you try the SEI, let us know how it does. If mine goes out again, will definitely look for something else. Can't be any worse than the TM, IMO. $2000 a pop ( literally) will make a rich man poor real quick. LOL.

I have thought about the Verado also. TM has not impressed me at all.

250 is too much engine for that gearcase. And that comment applies to the Standard/Servicemaster
that the Chinese gearcase was based from.
