How did you hear about it? I kind of have my doubts, with the new EchoMap Plus series not supporting it and Garmin already having trouble to get rid of the old Echomaps. It doesn't sound like the smartest bussiness move to open another can of worms. Plus, considering the poor (3rd party) offline software support for the Garmin file format and their shitty screen resolution, I don't know what the benefit of it would actually be. Already the current SideVü far overfills screen resolution.
Yeah, with low resolution, shadow lacking, poor soft return worthless crap.
And I think I'm being nice when I say that. I've played with settings on my 7608 w/ GT52 for over a year and barely get SideVu images worthy of a first gen Lowrance. It's pathetic. There is plenty of room for improvement with the current screen resolutions. The sad part is I seriously doubt they'd make it backwards compatible with current units.
Glad I went with sooner lol

That’s why they made it a black box instead of built into a unit. To make it compatible with as many units as possible
Whole lotta compatible units listed

Does that mean that it would preclude the use of a panoptix transducer on Echomap units which only have one ethernet port?
The Ultra HD sonar will require the GT34UHD and GCV20 Module which has 3 ethernet ports on it. It appears you would connect your echomap to the module via marine network cable and the same with your Panoptix transducer cable.

My question is Garmin already has a few Premium "Black Boxes" a few are quite expensive . What is the difference going to be from the pre existing black boxes, It looks like if anything the Ultra High def box will be more affordable than some of the current ones on Garmins page
