When I started fishing for bass I lived on a lake in Michigan that had a lot of grass. I learned how to fish a spinnerbait and learned to always have a trailer. I used Yamamoto 4" grubs and would catch a bass almost on every cast. I also would fish small square bill crankbaits. Since there were seasons in Michigan you could not use "bass" baits out of season. Our lake also had a lot of northern pike, so that is why the spinnerbait. Always practiced catch and release so that wasn't an issue. 3rd bait I learned was the texas rigged worm.

7 1/2" culprit worm. Color didn't matter, as long as it had a fire tail.

1st time I remember ever actively fishing for bass was with a Weed Wing. My Daddy also had a homemade "Weed Wing" (he had taken the spinner off and put a single Colorado blade on).

Rooster tails, beetle spins, small rebel crankbaits and Mann's jelly worms accounted for a lot of fish when I was young.
