Just picked up 3 size 27 today to replace the Everstarts which will be moved to my electric only Tracker. Thanks for the heads up on the sale.

Would this be a good cranking battery for a 150 Merc 2 stroke?

I got a pair of the group 31 agm from Sam’s last night. The manufacturer date is 3/18 and our local store had a pallet full of agm 31’s and 27’s remaining. This will be my first time using agm batteries so I hope they are worth the cost.

Wish I could run agm but it isn’t recommended on my EFI. I do plan on picking up three group 31 wet cell this weekend though.

    No.

If it is an EFI with a stator charging system, Merc does not recommend an AGM. It stresses the voltage regulators.

If it is an Opti, cca’s on that battery are 800. The Opti alone requires 800 ccas, without allowing for accessories like running your livewells, graphs, shallow water anchors, etc. It is best to exceed minimum cranking requirements by at least 150-200 ccas. There are better choices for a cranking battery if you have an Opti and use your accessories.

Replaced my Sears PM1 (which was likely damaged by a previous inexpensive charger) with a Sams/Duracell AGM 31 in Jan 2017 - fished about 75+ days with it so far and no issues running 2 Lowrance HDS (Gen2 8 and 12) and cranking a 225 ProXS - I don't tournament fish so don't run livewell pumps very often but do occasionally. I run a MK Precision 460 and use a heavy gauge extension cord for charging. There have been multiple posts about this battery not being stout enough for Optimax motors (as it is basically the minimum spec - with nothing else running) but it has worked well for me. One of my buddies has been running 3 of these for his TM setup for a few years will no issues. Your Results May Vary.

    Good Luck.

Yes, the agm is not "recommended" for mercury efi motors..... but I have a mercury 200 efi and I use the duracell group 31 agm for cranking/electronics. It may be a ticking time bomb, but it supplies the power I need on long days fishing. Worked flawless last year.

Anyone know Sam's club battery policy is there a core charge ?

Also haven't measured yet is it possible to replace my 27's with 31's without major modifications ? On my 2013 Tracker PT175TXW.
    Thanks

I was told that you could bring old batteries back in after purchase and get the core charge back. Figured that one out because dummy me forgot to grab the batteries yesterday morning.

News travels fast. I called Sams and they had 5. Asked them to hold 3 until I got there in less than an hour. Got there and they only had 2 left. Rain check on the last one I guess.

I jumped on this deal as well. $139 each was a good price. Now I just have to get my old ones back to recoup the core charges.
