Water From Weep Hole (no gear oil)

    200LProXS
    SN:1B865955

I noticed excessive amounts of water draining from the weep hole of the lower unit. No gear oil was present, but it drained for very long time. Long enough that i noticed it was odd.

    Weep Hole:

    Checked gear oil:

I assume this is a sign of water? My last trip was during an extremely cold day...i made sure to do my best and let the water drain before my 1.5 hour ride home. Could this cause a seal or something to freeze and bust?

I do not see any fishing line around my prop shaft. I assume it is a seal somewhere.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.
    Chris

Definite water intrusion. Get it in for pressure test and proper diagnosis. I would completely drain that l/u and refill with good lube and NOT run it until you can get it fixed.

No. I did not change the oil. I had it serviced last fall.

You definitely have a bad seal(s).
    Lower unit needs pressure tested.
Prop shaft needs the run-out checked, if the prop shaft seals are bad.

I just had the same exact thing happen to my opti 225 right when I winterized it, after a few cold, last few days of fishing.

it was the shift shaft seal. Easy fix. While your in there, do a water pump rebuild as well.

mine was leaking from the same exact spot after the same exact conditions as you.

When it' leaking from weep hole-- 95% of the time it's the shift shaft seal as it's the weak link. Sometimes it is the driveshaft seal as they are both located on top of the LU-- that's why the leak at weep hole.
If the prop shaft seal is bad it will be leaking out the bottom.
If you replace a seal its still a crap shoot without pressuring while LU is off. And yes easy to change impeller and inspect pump housing while off.

Guys, any thoughts on why so much water came from the weep port? Maybe it always does that, but I allow the LU to drain every time and it has never been that much. No oil came out, but obviously a seal is compromised.

Water coming out of that hole is not an issue for you......water in the lower unit IS a big problem.

That opening is there to drain a recess that traps WATER.
