Buy a good primer and you should be good to go. Not aware of any stripper that wont damage the plastic.

Some use walnut shells as media through a sand blaster.

oven cleaner works great on most plastics..i would test on one your not in love with
Mason jar full of rubbing alcohol works often, and won't hurt most plastics. Takes a few days sometimes, but you get to keep scale detail, etc.

No experience just an idea. The active ingredient in Windex is ammonia which has a high pH (10.7). Oven cleaner contains sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and is even higher pH (13.3). Paint remover is basically a NaOH solution. So how about making a solution of Lye (potassium hydroxide) or drain cleaner which contains lye or NaOH? This would be much less messy than spraying oven cleaner and faster than windex.
