    HPDI OR Series II

Looking at getting another boat, 2009 to 2012. Any opinions on HPDI or Series II? If I have to wait to get a SHO, in what year did they get better?

    Thanks guys!

Not a huge fan of the big block HPDI, you can make them live but they are pickey about fuel and being propped correctly. Buying used the owner can tell you anything unless you know the boat. 13 and up for the SHO but the powerhead replacement deal and being updated with newer style is a good thing also. CJ

My 07 HPDI 225 was perfect at 330 when I sold it a couple months ago. I always ran 87 with stabil and marvel mystery oil in the gas. The only issues I ever had was the thrust washers.

The HPDI was a 16 bit computer and the Series II was a 32 bit computer. I'm sure there was other differences. I think the Series II came out in 2006 may be 2007.

I have a 2009 HPDI Series 2 200HP with probably 200 hours. Zero issues thus far. Other than it doesn't like to start when the motor is trimmed all the way down in the water after fishing a while - unless I bump the hot foot when turning the key to kick out the 'back pressure'. Either that or I have to trim it up to start it.

I can't remember all of the differences, but one is the Series 2 has a different poppet valve design to help prevent crud from getting stuck in it.
