Bass only opens here in June so it’s pretty much summer before I can really crank...

Megabass S-crank is what I use shallow and the most.

I throw a square bill every single time I go fishing... I don't know if it works super well or it is just my confidence in the technique, but I always throw them and 9/10x it produces.

I’m learning. Been doing well this last week. Red , green and shad. All been doing well. All XD 5s and 6s. I need a better crank rod though. I lost a really nice fish yesterday( I’ll blame the rod). And the rods I’m using hurt my wrist after a bit. I need longer Handle, I think.

1.5s on the stained flats with wood leading into spawning coves when water hits mid 50s is money.

I take a slightly different approach to spring time cranking. Like Lape0019 said our season open in June. But we have early C&R opportunities in my area on the MI side of Lake St Clair. I know some guys have caught them good cranking a crawfish pattern over boulders close to spawning flats. But I've take a deep diving Jerkbait and slow cranked it with pretty good success out in 12-15'. A lot of times in early May if we've had a colder spring the big females haven't moved up to spawn yet. So we catch suspended fish on DD Jerkbaits when everyone else is throwing blade baits on the bottom. Have to watch your graph though, doesn't work unless there's lots of bait.

Crankbaits are year round baits for me. They are deadly in cold water. I always have a couple tied on. A squarebill is the most used for me though.
