I need a little help form the gallery. I just picked up a 1994 procraft V180C. It says up to 175 hp outboard max. But how do I know if the transom is still up to the challenge? How does a 1994 2 stroke 175hp outboard compare to today's four stroke motors. I guess is what I asking is: What motor would you put on a boat like?
a 175 2 stroke will weigh about 330 pds. with good performance out of the efi's. a four stroke will weigh considerable more, check spects on manufactures websites. you will not like a heavy motor on the back of that boat for many reasons. I would look for a 96-2001 efi 2 stroke, even in a 150 hp.
Thanks, So nothing over 350 lbs. Keep it lite, so that means 2 stroke. can I go down to 100 hp 2 stroke? Its seems like there are more 25" shaft motors in my area. Can I use a jack plate and 25" or is best to just hunt a 20"?
I would guess the boat alone is around 1500 + and if you want decent performance I would go for the one five o or 175 efi. if you want to enjoy with the family or fish a smaller motor may suit you. stay with the 20 in., check out jaco marine he has a nice 150 now.
