Dan, I’m in the process of doing this job myself. I’ve removed my fuel tank and put lights inside as well. Lights outside only didn’t totally dry the inside of the transom in my situation. This week I also added a dehumidifier in the bilge area. I hoping to have created a desert environment for max drying. Haha.

For the dehumidifier to work the boat needs sealed good in a bag to prevent outside moisture from entering the area.

Use some acetone. It attracts water and helps the drying process.

Good point I forgot to mention. Used plastic and sealed everything up.

I don't envy any of you guys trying to dry the transoms out... Just give the lamps time and I'm praying for the best... Dan

Do it right. If you jigsaw it together it will fail.

I wouldn't play around with the transom. Too much stress put on it and I've seen pics of boats where they failed and the motor wound up hanging by the cables in the water. Also heard of them coming into the boat with you. Mine was bad so I just did the Arjay route last year. It isn't that difficult and the end result is a transom that is rock solid. 2nd boat that I have poured a transom in and both came out great.

I'm trying to picture what you describe for a repair and I just don't see where that is going to hold up to the abuse. I want one solid piece in there.

Didn't see the pictures. Looks like you already cut the cap as much as you have to for a pour. Not sure what you mean by all the way into the splash well being required

I'd replace with starboard or a thick chop mix of glass and resin.

I sealed my top pieces back on

Drilled my motor holes and mounted my plate, sealed really good with more Boat Life. That is some more nasty caulk. You can't wipe the stuff off for anything, it just smears.

    On goes the Merc

And mounted some nice new Perko stern eyes
