    Recommended oil

Doing service on my 300 Pro Verado, serial # 2B023639, and noticed two Mercury dealers I’ve been to recently had no or limited supply of 25w-50, which is what my owners manual calls for. My regular dealer said Mercury changed the specs on the Verado oil to 25w-40. So I came home checked the Mercury website and it says 25w-40 except for limited high performance applications in which case it was 25w-50. Sent an email to Mercury and the response was I should be using the 25w-40. Just curious if anyone has switched to the 25w-40.

I have 55 hours on my 300 Pro and I have used 25w-50 for both oil changes. I changed the oil at 20 hours and at the end of the season. When I brought my boat home from the dealer when it was new I asked for oil and a filter to change the oil and they gave me the 25w-50 so that’s what I’ve been using. My motor is a 2017.

25W40 is acceptable for all except the (Previous Racing 350 Sci) & 400 Verado's (currently).

It is ALSO acceptable to use 25w50 Racing Fourstroke Oil in ANY of the Verado Models. Required in the 350 and 400's.

Is there any advantage or disadvantage in still using the 25w50 in a 300 Pro? I fish in outside temperatures around freezing at times and water temperatures in the mid 30’s. Thanks

From what I understand the 25w is the cold flow number and the 50 would be the heat side of it in basic terms, so if this is true the 25w50 oil would have better heat resistance than the 25w40.

I'm somewhat confused. Please clarify what oil goes in the current 350? 25W50 or 25w40 or both. Thank you

Manufacturer is now specifying 25w40 Synthetic Blend for the Production 350.
