    50 fish days

Now that I'm fishing the bigger lakes regularly, I'm curious, are we talking smallies, and mostly 2-3 lbs? When, prespawn (Depth range ?) or spawn time? Does this give you some sort of info on the larger females?

I would be interested in hearing how many NH/Mass guys have 50 fish days? If you are getting 50 2+3lb Smallmouth, you are on them beds hardcore.

Only times I've ever gotten in to big bunches of fish have been out of someone else's boat. I'm not very good yet at finding those big wads of fish. But those few times weren't in the spring--more like early to mid fall, and maybe 20 or so fish.

Only days I've had 50+ fish were bed fishing days. Otherwise, my best non-bed fishing days were three days in which I had 35, 37, and 38 bass. Two of those days I pulled up those fish in 3 or 3.5 hours of fishing that started early in the evening, probably could have broke 50 if I stayed out late enough. One day it was calm, fairly warm, and just had a brief rain shower pass through. Bass were up shallow and crushing a shakey head. Other day was windy and early-ish in the year, but the fish must have moved up within the past day or two. Throwing a chatterbait and swimbait up into the wind blown shore in 1-2 feet of water, most were hammering it either the moment it hit the water, or within a foot of retrieving it. That was one hell of a fun day.

I have never seen 50 fish days at 2-3 lbs, maybe mid 30's during the smallie spawn
I had a few years at BIP fishing for LM in mid-summer in the mid-30s but not all 2-3 lb. fish.More like 1.5-3lb. fish.

50 fish day is a fishermen's term not a literal term, kind-a-like-a trumpism

Most 50+ fish days I have had, which I could count on 1 hand mostly occurred with smallmouth in the spring. And most of those fish were closer to 1-1.5 lbs. The best day I ever had was last year on Wickwas in the middle of july. Found a roboworm color dropshotting that the fish couldn't get enough of. Those fish averaged 1.5 lbs with a lot over 2 and 3. I believe it was more of finding the right color and right depth that made difference. On a side note I went back the next weekend with a buddy to try and repeat and it didn't work.....

I had a day on Winni pre-spawn, easy 50, all 1.5- 2. Didn't matter what you were throwing. . Also had a day like that up in Maine, same thing, I tied on shit in my box I never used just to see if it would continue. . Love days like that!

I watched Big Al extract 50 fish from Torsey in Maine on a spinerbait one day at a rally.

I have had several 50+ over the last couple of years...all during the spawn. Last year, we fished 3 out of my boat and I was only fishing about half the time and we ended up with 335 total over 4 days on different lakes each day. We didn't catch as many fish over 5 as years past but our big fish for the week was about 6#. I take the same week of vacation every year to fish the spawn....It will make a mediocre angler look like a rock star.

I have had a hand full of days like that, once with my tourney partner prefishing on Winnisquam, we counted up into the 70's all smallies. another time on Winni when they were on the beds when I had never done that before. The area on Winnisquam was not that big which blew our minds, the time on Winni was fishing all around the Islands. Great fun when its not bed fishing.

When the spinnerbait bite or top water is on it’s not that hard .. covering water and hitting all the active fish ... a lot of other baits take longer to fish and have to be fished slower .. if I don’t have 15-20 fish days I’m usually pretty pissed unless it was a bigger fish day
