Personally I would stay away from the City of Anderson. Seems like it gets more and more crowded every year. The surrounding areas in Anderson County would be better

I would look at the powdersville area just north of Anderson still close to Lake Hartwell and lake keowee also close to the Greenville Area.

I live on the Westside of Anderson about 5-8 minutes from Greenpond off Highway 24. It's not as crowded as the city and up north around Highway 81 north area. Stay away from the Homeland Park area. The area of Highway 187 south is nice. Across the double bridges is Hartwell fishing and marine (I still call it Garrett's) used to work there as a teenager. They have the best selection of fishing tackle in Anderson. Hope this helps.

Good advice above. I just moved here (2 miles from Hartwell fishing & marine) and love it. Close enough to the major stuff but not in the busy part of the city.
Seneca is also great like Fred said, but I wanted to be closer to the main part of Hartwell. Seneca is a 25+ min drive from main lake Hartwell (you can get to the upper parts of the Seneca river part of Hartwell fairly quick though), but that is all up to your preference.

This is very true! I havent made it there yet but will... Im also eyeing Jocassee cause I really want to catch a SM!!!
Been having way too much fun catching SB (and the occasional LM which all seem to be good sized and healthy) on Hartwell though!

Jocassee will blow your mind! The water clarity is incredible and the scenery is breath taking with the water falls. Seeing a fish come out of 20' of water to hit a gitzit will amaze you. LM, SM, and trout! The bass aren't the top choice of anglers up there they are after trout. Fished a T up there once and saw some fish schooling in one of the creeks I was fishing. Moved down the bank keeping an eye on them and when I got to the spot where they were coming up tossed a TW lure at them, hooked up and brought in an 8.6 brown trout!
If you're looking to retire and do alot of fishing and don't want to be near the crowd you could also head towards IVA. you can actually find lake lots on succession and Russel (awesome lake with no skiers) very reasonable.
All the locals still call it Garrets... hmm you have the same first name and last initial as the original owner.. Rick is a super guy. Wonder how he's doing?
