Hey guys, I could use your help. I’m looking at a couple of 2004 Skeeters and one has a HPDI and the other has what just says 3.1 on it. I’ve never owned a Yamaha so any help would be appreciated.

2006 Skeeter ZX225
the hpdi is high pressure direct injection. if its a 200 and up it has a 3.3 block. these engines are known to have issues and a bad rep. for blowing. do some research on here. plenty about them. the 3.1 is an ox66 fuel inj. imo and many others the best engine out there. I passed on any rig with a 3.3 hpdi. ox66 is a sweet engine if taken care of
Thanks. I really appreciate it!
2006 Skeeter ZX225
3.3 HPDI - direct injection.
3.1 OX66 - throttle body injection
3.1 if you have a choice. Easy to work on and if your mechanically inclined easy to do vst filter, bowl filters and very easy to remove and service the injectors.

Is the HPDI that bad? I'm lookin' at a 2005 225 HPDI. If it's is good shape is it still to be avoided? I'm willing to keep fuel and filters clean. As bad of reputation as like a Fitch?
Hard to believe Yami would put a gernade on the market..........Please help
2000 Ranger 520DVX 225hpdi
I have a 3.3 250 hpdi. It did blow the powerhead after i bought it 2yrs ago. (#3 cyllinder) But, i also dont know how it was taken care of. However, they are fast motors, and i have heard lots of good of them when they are properly maintained. Clean fuel/filters is a must. Get the compression checked by a reputable mechanic, and have everything tested. Thats the best i can say.
worst engine Yamaha ever built damn near killed them. run don,t walk. unless your wallet is deeper than mine. I'm trying to help u
The 2004 200 HPDI is a 2.6L. The 200 hp HPDI didn't go to the 3.3 until 2005. I owned a 2004 200 HPDI and never had a bit of trouble with it. I always ran Yamalube oil and Ring Free in it and it was a great motor. Now I have a 2005 225 HPDI and love it. They are better on fuel than the regular 3.1 OX66. The 2.6L does lack power if it is pushing a good sized boat. It was a little small for the 196 Champion I had.
I bought a 2006 Stratos with a HPDI in 2008....only had 24hrs on it....now has close to 400...no issues...regular filter changes and plugs a must....Yamalube and Ring Free
