Question Where to place ferrite core

I am installing a echomap 73sv plus on a kayak this weekend. The manual doesn’t mention where to put the ferrite core. Do I put it on the power cable near the battery or does the ferrite core go on the GT52 transducer cable??

    Thanks in advance

The Humminbird one went on the Transducer cable close to the unit. I dont know about yours.

Thank you MonteSS and Fishing Couillon

Will test ferrite core on transducer cable close to the unit AND also on the power cable close to the unit.

I forgot to mention that I only have the echomap on the circuit. No trolling motor or other electronics. Wifi is turned off on the 73sv PLUS.

Guess the new PLUS echomaps now come with a ferrite core because of the wireless Active Captain....Garmin being proactive?

    Anyway, thank you everyone

Shouldn’t need it on your Yak.

Today I installed an EchoMap Plus 73sv with a GT52HW-TM in the Jackson Kraken transducer hole and the side imaging works perfectly.

Garmin states that the GT52 needs an unobstructed view for side imaging to work. So I made a special transducer mount that allows me to move the GT52 up to 3 inches below the hull. For shallow water or the boat ramp....I can pull the GT52 back into the hull for safety.

Now for the kicker....the GT52 provides the same great image....regardless of position, works perfectly inside or 3 inches out of transducer hole.

I did add the ferrite core on the power cable near the unit, for giggles. The sonar pics are crystal clear, I am very impressed with the 73sv Plus

The Ferrite prevents interference in two directions, from a device or to a device. A Ferrite should be added to the power cable to help eliminate any electronic noise on the DC power supplied to the unit.

I'm confused now, does the ferrite core go on the transducer or the power cable?

Either, depends on the RFI source.

Get ahold of your manufacturer. See what they'll do.

A ferrite core can eliminate common mode interference, that is, interference which is present on positive and negative terminals alike. It cannot suppress differential interference, where a difference is present between positive and negative terminal, if the whole cable is threaded through (e.g. voltage spikes on DC trolling motor supply). It should always be positioned close to the unit, as that's the space to protect, the cables are the antennas that pick up interference.
If the problem is interference from the DC supply rails, the ferrite goes on the power cable. If the issue is trolling motor pickup at the transducer/cable, the ferrite goes on the transducer cable. If there is no interference problem, the ferrite goes into the shelf. Don't expect any magic to happen to interference issues, though. These ferrites are working in the high MHz to GHz range! I've ever only once seen a case where a ferrite made a real difference: a video camera which radiated interference back through the power cable, which then ultimately killed GPS signal. Placing a ferrite on the supply cable close to the unit restored GPS reception.
