    1998 Merc 225 EFI

Looking into a possible project boat. Wondered what everyone's thoughts were on this motor. Assuming maintenance was completed and hours are within reason, is this a dependable motor? Were there any major problems with it back in the day? I'll likeley replace the motor eventually but wondering if I'm likely to get a couple years out of her. If not I'll consider that in the negotiations.

Im going to have a compression and leak down test done before I buy. Is this motor too old to get the hours off it at the various rpms?

    motor is on a 98 TR21

    thanks!

If the ecm's are the original ones, then you should be able to access accurate hours. These still had the 2 butterfly intake, but a great motor nonetheless.
