    Jerkbait rod

I like to use a spinning reel setup for a suspending jerkbait. I want to be able to cast a good long distance and have some good action. I mainly use luckycrafts 90s.

Im currently using a Dobyns Fury FR 703 SF which is a 7' med/fast action. When i have the jerkbait at the rod tip, its like its to heavy for the rod. I dont get good distance and not really ideal for putting action into the jerkbait.

Any suggestions on length and power

703 would be too light for my taste - Dobyns 4 power is perfect for jerkbaits. 684cb is awesome, but they also make a 704 of 634 depending on what length you prefer. The 685 is quite a bit stiffer to me than the 684 so if I needed more power I would go up to the 705 to get some tip back. I do prefer the 6'8" rod though. For the baits you are throwing right around 1/2oz a 4 power is perfect.

    He's looking for a spinner.

I'd look at either a 7'1 st croix mojo Medium, or daiwa tatula/cronos 7'2 Medium Heavy.

Sorry read that too quickly. For spinning if the 3 power is too light step up to the 4 power - you should have no problem throwing that size bait. I would look at the Sierra 704 - the sierras are fantastic rods for the money.

I have one of the Powell Nusance rods for jerk baits, works great and was cheap. It’s the 6’10” medium, I think that the only one TW has left. Oh, I love the handle design, no sharp edges around the reel seat.
