    Unhappy I think I have a problem

    went out and checked my motor that has been trimmed down all winter inside my shop and found this

    It looks like you had water in the LU and it froze. Also, looking at the skeg, you have been banging it against a lot of crap that may or may not have contributed to the failure.

    had water and froze and yes it was tilted all the way down. Mercury 250xs

    Tilting it all the way down may get all the water out of the block but won't do a thing for water that has migrated past the seals and into the LU. You need to drain and refill in the Fall. Any milky looking lube will tell you to get the LU checked during that time. If LU oil looks solid, just replace with fresh.

    I have a couple real nice TM for sale if your in need of one. If you had enough water in it to do that I'm sure you will have some rust now.

    yea I got lucky this year also. I got my boat just before thanksgiving and I changed the LU lube in it and it had some water in it. glad I changed mine.

    Yeah u can weld it its full of water the prop shafts seals are out our the carriage oring is leaking or could be water pump from inside lower unit

    It’s a damn shame you hit a submerged object and destroyed your lower unit. Hello insurance claim. The impact mark on the nose of the LU is definite indication.

    You weld that and you best plan on it having to be machined afterwards. Call your insurance company.
