    Jackplate size for 482V

I have a 93 482V (not VS) with an 03 Rude 150. Great boat. Currently do not have a jackplate but want to add one to gain a little better performance and handling, particularly in rougher water. Everything I have read says a jackplate will really wake the boat up.
I've done a lot of searching and it seems like some have added a 6", some 8".
Asking the experts, for this hull, should I go to a 6" or 8"?
    Thanks for your insight!

I put a 6" on mine and the performance and drivability was way better once I got it set. Mine had a 175hp.

Thanks all, appreciate the help. I was leaning towards 6", sounds like that's the right call.

I know 6" was the max from Ranger for the VS, getting ready to slap one on myself. Not sure about regular hulls. Someone will chime in shortly. Can't see why you couldn't go bigger with a Ranger transom...pretty bulletproof.

You can go more set back on that year model hull. I'm not sure what the gains would be. That hull ran good and lifted good with a 6" remember that hull is only 1250 lbs. It's not near the weight of the new 18" hulls. That transom is stout on the early 90's.

Transom definitely seems rock solid. I'm not opposed to going bigger than 6" if it would improve performance significantly. And you are right gonnabe, weight is right at 1250.

Thanks again all. Looks like a 6" will be the ticket.

I installed an Atlas 6" hydraulic jack plate on my boat and noticed a definite improvement to hole shot and top end speed. That is with full fuel and tournament load. Also using a Trophy 4 blade prop for better rough water running/maneuvering. A lot of good information on here, you won't go wrong with the advice of the board.
