    1998 Triton TR-20 engine swap???

    I Have a 1998 TR-20 with a blown FICHT 200HP motor.

    I am replacing with a New E-Tec E150HGL.

Do you think this 150 HP engine will get my boat out of the hole OK?

I'm not worried about losing some speed, I'm more worried about getting up on plane as fast as possible.

Does anyone know a good prop I should use for this combination of boat & engine?

    thanks
    Ed

I think a 150 on that boat is going to be a problem.

That’s a pretty big boat for a 150 if your main concern is hole shot

I bought my 98' Tr20 with a 150 Johnson FICHT on it. I ran great with only 372 hrs on it. BUT....You WILL NOT BE HAPPY with the holeshot & it'll wear that motor out quicker. Its a LOT of boat for any brand 150. I sold the 150 changed controls & put a 200 Merc on it. Great holeshot & motor dont struggle to do it.
TRUST ME on this one. You wont be disappointed & IF you ever sell it, it WILL sell easier & quicker.

I have a 98 TR20 with a 95 model 150 XR6, a 25 Quicksilver prop, 10" jackplate and I have no problem coming out of the hole. I would like to have a 200 as well (just because that is what it calls for) but at my age of 68 I'll keep what I have because I know the motor and have had it since it was new. I don't care about speed and I have no problem with performance.

I have a '00 TR20,,, I suggest going with no less than 200hp. A TR20 will work the crap out of a 150, killing the life of the 150!! Just my 2c!
