Riptide 80# Hand - Stays on High only

13 month old 80# Hand Control Riptide

Issue is the unit stays on high only, regardless of whether I turn the handle from 100%-0%, even in reverse it stays on high going forward.

It would have been under warranty, but I'm second owner of the boat so if its a relatively easy fix I prefer not to take it in, plus having the boat down for a few weeks.

Would the issue likely be in the head or in the foot of the unit?

Called Minn Kota. Likely the board needs replacement. No replies needed.

Took the head apart when I got home. It wasn't the board, but somehow the linkage from the handle came apart from the speed control. Not the best design I've ever seen, but was able to repair it no biggie.

Good deal glad to hear you were able fix it yourself.

Sometimes the speed rheostat will come loose from the yoke in the handle. It happens. Just a reminder that if you store the handle in the down position make sure that the handle is in the off position. If it is not in the off position then you could break the yoke and you will all control.
By the way. this is a good solid troll motor. I have seen some come to my shop, but most are more than 5 years old. You should get good service from it if you take care of it.
