1" ball mount Ram mount

Is a 1" ball mount sufficient to hold up a HDS8 unit or should it be a 2.25" ball ram mount don't fish any really big waters anymore but want one that stays where you put it till you want to move it????

Go with the larger mount. I tried the small one as that is what I had at the time. Was not happy it didn’t stay put.

NOPE.....go with the 2.25" ram......i had the 1" with HDS 7 and 8 at one time and they were always moving.

I have a HDS 8 on a 1" ram mount mounted on the bow. Works OK for me. Rarely do I have to tighten it.

I have a Humminbird 688 on a 1.5" Ram on the bow, it moves around a good bit crossing boat wakes and such.

Sorry, the more I think about it, the mount is a 1 1/2" ball.

I've got an elite 9 ti on a 1.5 inch ram mount at the console, and I don't have a single problem in rough water. I really tighten it down though and its not in a precarious spot.

My HDS-7's stay put with the 1.5" ball. I just went to HDS-9 and I'm gonna see how the 1.5 (E6 model) works with those units.

I had a 1.5 ball mount ram..it would move my helix 7 with rough water. I had to tighten it so tight the rubber coating started to rip. I have a balzout now. No issues.
